Stage 1 burn ban remains in effect for Pierce and Snohomish Counties
The use of fireplaces and uncertified wood stoves is prohibited until air quality improves
Due to continuing stagnant weather conditions and elevated air pollution levels, a Stage 1 burn ban remains in effect for Pierce and Snohomish counties, according to the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency. This ban is in effect until further notice.
The Puget Sound region remains under the influence of high pressure, which is creating cool, dry and stagnant weather conditions. Under these conditions, air pollution is expected to continue building up at night, especially in communities where residential wood-burning is common. Air quality could reach UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS in parts of Snohomish and Pierce counties Monday night into Tuesday morning. Clean Air Agency forecasters are actively monitoring the situation to determine if the burn ban needs to be elevated to a Stage 2 ban or expanded to include King and/or Kitsap counties.
